We are proud to support the communities in which we operate, and acknowledge that our workforce is our biggest asset. Through our Workforce Engagement Program, we provide opportunities for our workforce to participate in community and environmental programs to give back to the local community.
The Orchard Garden Blitz
A team of 30 Cadia employees volunteered to overhaul a section of Housing Plus’ Domestic Violence Crisis Centre, conducting a garden blitz to create a tranquil garden space featuring an Indigenous yarning circle and raised vegetable garden for the residents to enjoy.
Calare Public Schoolyard Blitz
We hosted a Schoolyard Blitz at Calare Public School involving around 30 Cadia volunteers who worked with the students and teachers to develop an inclusive Indigenous garden.
The Schoolyard Blitz involved the establishment of a yarning circle using rocks, logs and a crushed granite path in the outline of a platypus, as well as developing native garden areas, including a bush tucker garden.
Glenroi Height Schoolyard Blitz
After the school had previously installed a natural-based playground equipment, the Schoolyard Blitz focused on bringing the playground to life by placing the required soft-fall material for the equipment, developing a path to run through the area and establishing a native garden including natural materials such as boulders and a tree trunk.
Our workforce engagement program also rewards the volunteering efforts of our workforce through our Good Onya! Program.
When a Newcrest employee or their spouse volunteers 25 hours or more of their personal time during a calendar year to support a disadvantaged group, charity, sporting club, registered organisation or educational organisation, we will donate $250 to that organisation to recognise their contribution.
In 2021, 48 employees contributed over 2,972 hours towards local organisations through our Good Onya! Program.
