Cadia Valley Operations

We are one of the world’s largest gold mining operations and welcome you to explore our site and activities.

About us

Cadia is one of Australia’s largest gold mining operations, owned 100 per cent by Newmont Corporation. We are located approximately 25 kilometres from Orange in Central West New South Wales (NSW) and 250 kilometres west of Sydney.

Our site comprises the Cadia East underground mine, which is one of the largest gold and copper deposits in the world. Cadia East commenced commercial production in January 2013 and uses the large-scale mining method known as panel caving.

The site also comprises the Cadia Hill Pit Tailings Storage Facility and the Ridgeway underground mine, which is currently in care and maintenance.

We produce gold doré bars from a gravity circuit and gold-rich copper concentrates from a flotation circuit. The concentrates are piped to a dewatering plant at nearby Blayney and sent by rail to Port Kembla in New South Wales for export. The Molybdenum Plant was commissioned during the March 2022 quarter and is expected to deliver an additional revenue stream in the form of molybdenum concentrate which will be a by-product credit to All-In Sustaining Cost per ounce.

The study, conducted by the University of South Australia, examined 88 sludge samples collected by Cadia during the district water sampling program against samples from Cadia’s ore body, and other soil and rock samples from the surrounding area. The report was independently interpreted by Emeritus Professor Brian Gulson from Sydney’s Macquarie University and found that 74

Cadia welcomes findings from 12-month ANSTO air quality study

6 July 2023 ; A new independent scientific report released last week has found that mining operations at Cadia have made a relatively small contribution to regional air quality. The 12-month particulate characterisation study, undertaken by the Australian Government’s Australian Nuclear Science Technology Organisation (ANSTO), was commissioned in collaboration with the local community and is the first in a comprehensive suite of independent air and water quality investigations. The report assessed the PM2.
