Cadia Blasting SchedulePreconditioning BlastsCadia is not currently conducting any preconditioning blasting at Cadia East Gold Mine and has not scheduled any preconditioning blasting in the near future. If this changes, prior notice will be provided to near neighbours before blasts re-commence. Development BlastsTypically, 60 short holes of 5 m are drilled from underground mine workings up to 1400 m below the natural ground surface. The holes are drilled in a precise pattern, filled with explosives and detonated in a controlled manner. These blasts are used in the construction/excavation of tunnels to access the ore body. Vibration from these blasts is generally not felt outside the mining area. Underground Production BlastsTypically, 50 short holes of 30 m are drilled in a precise pattern, filled with explosives and blasted in a controlled manner. These blasts are used to create the extraction points, known as draw bells, where underground loaders can access the broken rock from the block/panel cave mining area. These blasts are generally not felt outside the mining area. Cadia East Preconditioning BlastsCadia is not currently conducting any preconditioning blasting at Cadia East Gold Mine. Prior notice will be provided to near neighbours when blasts recommence. Cadia East Production BlastsProduction blasts at Cadia East occur at the end of each shift. Ground vibration and noise from each blast is measured by Cadia's blast monitoring network and reported monthly. Ridgeway Production BlastsProduction blasts at Ridgeway may occur at the end of night shift only. Ground vibration and noise from each blast is measured by Cadia's blast monitoring network and reported monthly. Blast times are:
